REGISTRATION & ELIGIBILITY

All entries for the 2025 Lowell/Central New England Golden Gloves must be submitted via the online registration form: https://forms.gle/QVavZaNGgbLKj3pUA  (Registration opens 11/15/2024)

Entry deadline:  Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 3:00pm

The 2025 Lowell/Central New England Golden Gloves tournament is open to male and female boxers 18 years or older in both the novice and open class who reside in the Central New England Golden Gloves region. Boxers must be no younger than 18 years of age at the start of the tournament and no older than 40 years of age at the end of the tournament (March 6, 2025 for non-advancing divisions or May 17, 2025 for divisions advancing to nationals.

Boxers must be registered with USA Boxing to enter and compete.  Before weighing in, all boxers must present their passbook with a 2025 membership card showing a verified date of birth and a current athlete physical which is valid for the date of competition. Photo, birth certificate, and current physical must be uploaded to your member profile. Membership card showing verified DOB and valid documents must be printed out and placed in the front of the book.  Tournament registration will not be accepted unless all requirements are met.

Coaches must be registered (membership fee paid) and certified (clinic attended/test completed) with USA Boxing. Current SafeSport certification and a completed and cleared background check is also required for all coaches. Coaches will not be permitted to work a corner unless they are fully registered and certified, and only 2 coaches are allowed in a corner. 

 
 

DEADLINE, REVIEW OF ENTRIES & TOURNAMENT DRAW

  • ENTRY DEADLINE: 3pm on Tuesday, December 31st - All entries must be submitted via the online entry form.

  • REVIEW OF ENTRIES: 4pm on Tuesday, December 31st - A complete list of entrants will be emailed to all entered boxers and their coaches and posted on Facebook (Laurie Purcell and Melissa Kelly pages) by Tuesday, December 31st at 4pm.

  • DEADLINE FOR CHANGES: 12pm on Wednesday, January 1st - Entrants will have until 12pm on January 1st to request changes or deletions (e.g., changing weight class).

  • TOURNAMENT DRAW: 1pm on Wednesday, January 1st

DATES OF COMPETITION AND ADVANCEMENT TO REGIONALS

*** NOTE: Boxers must be prepared to compete on any date of the tournament. *** 

Boxers competing in the Lowell/Central New England Golden Gloves automatically qualify for the New England Tournament of Champions held at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL

  • Novice class boxers have not more than 10 bouts.

  • Open class boxers have 11 or more bouts.

Athletes who have competed in other amateur combat/striking sports (e.g., MMA, kickboxing) are required to compete in the open class and may NOT enter as novice without permission from USA Boxing.  For information on how to request a waiver, see page 73 of the current USA Boxing rulebook

To request updates to your USA Boxing record in MatchTracker, If a boxer has documented bouts in their passbook that are missing online, they must fill out the MATCHTRACKER MISSING BOUTS form.

 

WALKOVERS, AWARDS, and SUBSTITUTIONS

  • A boxer must compete at least once in the tournament to be eligible for advancement or awards. 

  • Regional walkover boxers may advance only if there is competition in the Golden Gloves New England Championships. 

  • Boxers can be awarded a trophy, medal, etc. only if they have competed at least once during the tournament.  He or she must weigh-in and can only be awarded the championship title if they win in the ring or if their scheduled opponent has pulled out.  Only in that case can a boxer win by walkover.

  • Each regional director has the right to advance a substitute boxer to represent their region if the winner of that region becomes unavailable.

  • If there is no competition in an open division, the boxer is eligible to advance to nationals at their own expense.

 
 

WEIGHT CLASSES & WEIGH-INS

The following weight classes are being contested for the 2025 Golden Gloves:

 

Men’s Open & Novice: 110, 121, 132, 143, 154, 165, 176, 187, 198, 198+

Women’s Open & Novice: 106, 112, 119, 125, 132, 143, 154, 165, 176, 176+

Boxers must declare one division and may not compete in multiple divisions or weight classes.

Weigh-ins are held 5:00-7:00 p.m. on event days, and only those scheduled to box on that date are required to weigh in (there is no general weigh-in). All boxers must weigh in to be officially entered in the tournament. Boxers are not required to shave. All boxers will be allowed to weigh in twice during the designated weigh-in period. No weight allowance in the Open Class. Novice boxers are allowed 2 lbs.

 

EQUIPMENT & UNIFORMS

Headgear: All Golden Gloves competition will be conducted with USA Boxing approved headgear. The headgear color does not need to coordinate with the color of the assigned corner, but wearing the color of the opponent’s corner is inadvisable (i.e., avoid wearing red when you are in the blue corner, or vice versa).

All open boxers must wear open-face headgear (no cheek protectors).

Gloves:  All competition will be conducted with USA Boxing approved gloves which will be provided to the athletes for use during competition.   

10 oz gloves will be used for boxers weighing up to 139.0 lbs

12 oz gloves will be used for boxers weighing 139.1 lbs or more

Gauze, Tape, and Hand Wraps:  A maximum of one roll of gauze per hand and 6’x1” of tape. Training hand wraps are also allowable for use in competition.

New England Golden Gloves bouts sheets will be posted on Facebook (Laurie Purcell and Melissa Kelly pages) no less than 5 DAYS in advance of each event.
